When not adventuring in his hunt for rare ingredients, Valoray uses two Parallel Weapons as a hero. His hook sling fires hooked ropes for mobility and item retrieval, and his goggles detect if anything they perceive is edible and safe. His horns are also blessed with the ability to detect the slightest air currents and faintest hints of magnetic fields, and he makes full use of these natural abilities and his equipment to ensure the safety of himself and those he travels with.

若きバロレイが冒険業を共にしていた相棒は、バロレイとは対照的に、持ち前の勇敢さと直感、身体能力で過酷な冒険を成功させていた。そんな相棒が、ある冒険の最中に些細な不注意が原因で大怪我を負い、冒険業の引退を余儀なくされてしまう。相棒に危険を伝えきれなかったバロレイは、同じ油断を二度としないように、そして何より、ほんの一瞬で人生の在り方が大きく変わってしまうような辛い思いを誰にもして欲しくないと願う。そしてひとり、あらゆる危険を想定し、対策を講じながら、今日もこう言うのだ。「おじさん心配だよ」と。

In his youth, Valoray had a partner he adventured with. His opposite in many ways, that person was bold, strong, and always made their taxing adventures successful with their strength. In the middle of one of their adventures, however, a moment of carelessness left him direly injured, forcing him to retire. After failing to fully communicate the danger to his partner at the time, Valoray vowed to never be careless again. A wish formed in his heart that no one would suffer the pain of having their life change so radically in an instant. Thus he imagines all possible dangers, comes up with all possible counterattacks, crosses his t’s and dots his i’s, and after all that, he says what he always says: “I’m worried.”

珍しいグルメ食材を求めて、様々な惑星を渡り歩く食材ハンター。仕事の傍ら、訪れた惑星で得た知識で、グルメ食材ハンティングツアーのコンダクターや、お手製保存食の販売、レシピ本の執筆などを行っている。穏やかで温厚な性格のバロレイだが、その一方で超が付くほどの心配性である。彼の執筆したキャンプ料理のレシピ本には、各地の危険区域情報、安全ルート、サバイバルテクニックなどが事細かに記載されており、本人の意図しないところで、専門家も舌を巻くサバイバル・ガイドブックとして名を馳せているのだとか。

Side Story (Translated)

Valoray is an ingredient hunter who travels planets far and wide in search of the rarest, tastiest ingredients. As a side job, he uses the knowledge gained from the variety of planets he’s visited to act as a guide for ingredient-hunting tours, to sell handmade travel food, and to write recipe books. While blessed with a warm and laid-back temperament, Valoray is cursed with a tendency to worry that borders on illness. Such anxiety has led him to employ intense detail in his writing, with his camp-cooking recipe book including long passages on dangerous zones of relevant planets, well-explained safe routes, survival techniques, and more. This makes it famous as a survival handbook beloved even by experts, of which Valoray himself has no clue.
